Our Story
A Local Party with a National Vision
The Southend Liberal Democrats have been a fixture of local politics for over a decade. Born from a tradition of community activism and progressive values, our party has grown from a small group of dedicated volunteers into one of the most active political forces in Southend-on-Sea.
We believe that politics should be local first. While we share the national Liberal Democrat commitment to fairness, internationalism, and civil liberties, our focus is squarely on the streets, homes, and workplaces of Southend. From council chambers to community centres, we are fighting for the issues that matter to you.
Today, the Southend Lib Dems hold several council seats and work tirelessly across all wards, regardless of political boundaries. Our team includes councillors, activists, and hundreds of volunteers who give their time to make our borough better.

Council Group Leader
Sarah has represented Westborough ward since 2018 and leads the Lib Dem council group with a focus on housing and transport.
James Crawford
Deputy Leader
James is a passionate advocate for environmental policy and leads the Green Southend Initiative. He represents Kursaal ward.
Amina Hassan
Community Engagement Officer
Amina coordinates our street surgeries and community events, ensuring every resident has a voice in local decision-making.
David O'Connor
Policy & Research Lead
David brings decades of local government experience to our policy work, with particular expertise in health and social care.
