I'M FUMING ABOUT THE AIR QUALITY

Traffic, and as a consequence, air pollution is increasing in Southend and particularly in Kursaal Ward.

With cars, lorries and vans pumping out noxious gases while crawling through our streets, major concerns have been expressed over the impact on the health of local residents in Sutton Road, Queensway, Southchurch Road, Southchurch Avenue and the Seafront. The Council seems only interested in meeting minimum national standards and not establishing better provisions for our community.

The Tory government blocked releasing a report on air quality as it knew it showed a link to the rise in asthma, COPD, heart conditions and dementia. EU air quality standards are much higher than ours and are being ignored. This is something the Council could unilaterally improve.

In sticking to the government's inadequate guidelines, they are risking the health of everyone in Kursaal Ward.

They need to do better.
