Lib Dems at the Save Southend A&E March

We MUST save Southend Hospital's A&E Department

Norman Lamb MP, the Lib Dem spokesman on health, has been invited by Cllr Carole Mulroney to see for himself the dangers that will arise if our A&E is downgraded and to talk to local protesters and health workers.

In her letter, Carole describes the proposal to send all emergency accident patients to Basildon and says:

  • The journey from Southend to Basildon is along roads notorious for congestion and with no easy by-pass routes. Patients may die during the long journey.
  • Southend has a large and growing population, an international airport and many visitors every year. We need to maintain or expand the A&E service to meet these needs, not reduce it.
  • These proposals would have a drastic effect. They are a cost-cutting exercise. We should be taking pride in our NHS, not decimating it.

There is a massive non-party campaign locally and we are playing our part in that - so please join us and sign the petition.
