The Loss of Our A&E is No Accident But Saving it is an EMERGENCY

It is without doubt that our accident and emergency department is in danger.

Southend Lib Dems originally looked at the proposals for Southend's A&E from a clinical perspective and concerns regarding infrastructure.

However, the published proposals by STP are deeply flawed, and so we are now supporting the Save Southend A&E campaign 100%. You can follow their progress on Facebook.

We are looking forward to attending a couple of events organised by the campaign. A Family picnic on 2nd July, and an event in Thorpe Bay 3rd June.

We applaud, and enjoyed the march in Southend High Street and were delighted to see that so many people attended. The need for blue light emergency capabaility 24/7 at Southend A&E was highlighted by a supporter collapsing with a seizure during the speeches; a huge relief to see him recovering when the paramedics arrived.

The Liberal Democrats will fund the NHS with an honest 1p in every £1 of income tax and avoid any need for this obvious cost-cutting exercise.

We will continue to fight alongside the Southend A&E campaign and ask that you sign the petition: savesouthend.co.uk/sign-our-petition

"The plan to downgrade our A&E is driven by money, and says it is based on the 'best use of workforce'. The health, safety and care of patients must always come first! As your MP that will be my priority. We must not accept the closure of vital services. We should look to successful campaigns that have fought this battle before - such as the success in saving the A&E in Lewisham, London. As your MP I would lead that fight from the front."

Cllr Carole Mulroney

"As the weeks have gone by the continuing lack of consultation and clarity regarding the STP ensures that the threat to Southend A&E as a non blue light facility is a reality which we have to fight and along with others that is what we are doing.

The signing of the petition by David Amess has only come about because of pressure from the campaign and the impending election."
