Southend Airport
At the Full Council meeting on Thursday the Conservative Leader of Southend Coun cil opposed the Southend Liberal Democat Leaders move to open up the decision on the extension of the Airport by bringing the planning application to the full Council for its consideration.
Proposing the Notice of Motion Cllr Graham Longley Leader of the Lib Dems and PPc for Rochford & Southend East said "that it was important that democracy was seen to be done and that leaving the decision to the Development Control Committee was unacceptable. Just nine (9) members of the Council would effectively decide the fate of the airport application. That was not democracy."
The Tories voted on bloc to oppose the motion and with Independent support the motion was defeated with only the Labour group supporting the LibDems.
