Cllr Graham Longley leader of Southend LibDems tabled an emergency motion at the Full Council meeting on Thursday evening when he called for the Council to give it's support to Southend United FC who were in danger of going into administration.
The club which had to find £2.1 mil (approx) to settle Tax bills and stave of administration were in danger of being in deep trouble.
The urgent motion gained unaminous support for the club and an offer to help where possible to overcome the problems.
Cllr Graham Longley said that "a fully supported League Football Club brought so much to a town and its effect should and could not be underestimated. The clubs current move towards a new stadium would bring enornmous economic re-generation benefits to the town and we should therefore support the club as strongly as we could."
