Liberal Democrats in Southend are eager to support the 1010 Climate change campaign and have put the following notice of motion to the next Council meeting:
In support of global, UK and Southend Borough Council's own Climate Change Strategy, Council commits to sign up to the national 10:10 project and through this to take action to cut its own carbon emissions by 10% during 2010.
To ensure it is well placed to meet this commitment, Council resolves to put in place resources to carry out enabling actions and to measure its progress towards the 2010 target.
Council further resolves to:
• set an example through its actions to its partners in the Southend Local Strategic Partnerships
Encourage all organisations with which it is part of or involved in to follow the example
• promote the campaign to the residents and businesses in the Southend district.
Proposers of the motion, Cllr Peter Wexham & Cllr Graham Longley, leader of the Liberal Democrat group will be urging the Council to support the cutting of carbon emmissions and by setting an example encourage local residents to do the same.
