Both local prospective parliamentary candidates in Southend, Cllr Graham Longley for Rochford & Southend East and Peter Welch for Southend West are attending the LibDems Autumn conference, once again in Bournemouth.
Both Candidates hope to speak at conference but each were enthusiatic for the new party slogan "Ready to Win". Peter Welch, particularly in Southend West is well placed to mop up the Labour vote and to beat the local sitting Tory, who may become the victim of public disenchartment over the MPs' expenses row.
Rochford & Southend East Cllr Graham Longley is hopeful of repeating his performance from the last election when he more doubled the LibDem vote. Interestingly if the Labour vote was to collapse in the East then a double win is very possible said Graham. "The local incumbent has not covered himself with glory and with so many tories turning to the Independents in the area the Tory vote may well also split.
Both candidates are enjoying the cut and thrust of conference and look forward to having the opportunity to put Southend (and Rochford's) needs before a listening audience.
