Example of adults using equipment
Liberal Democrat budget proposals made in 2007 for the installation of Senior Citizen "play/exercise equipment" in our local parks, which were ridiculed by the Tory administration, have suddenly appeared in Priory Park - two years later! - thanks to Cory Environmental.
LibDem Council group leader Cllr Graham Longley put forward a series of proposals at the 2007 budget setting council meeting including following a Manchester Community group who had installed "play/exercise equipment" for senior citizens in the local parks.
He made the point that the equipment was an excellent way of local citizens improving their fitness without having to resort to expensive gym and fitness centres. It was also an opportunity for young and old being seen together with grand parents and their grand children sharing experiences in the park together.
However the LibDem proposal was ridiculed by the administration at the time and thrown out by the Tories who were not prepared to change their budget.
"Imagine my surprise" said Cllr Longley, "to find Cllr Jarvis extolling the virtues of such equipment when installed recently in Priory Park. It may have taken them two years but the implementation of LibDem proposals are always welcomed even when it is done by other parties. May be the next time they will take rather less time to implement a Liberal Democrat suggestion."
Cllr Longley wished to thank Cory Environmental, who funded the scheme, for their forward thinking and vision to install the equipment in our parks.
