The announcement that the Tories were proposing to go-back to square one on the question of 'A' boards was called an embarrassing "U" turn by Cllr Graham Longley Leader of the LibDem council group and PPC for Rochford & Southend East.
Firstly they were to ban "A" boards altogether, they then decided that they would introduce a licence fee and allow them, if businessmen paid the fee and now they are right back where they began allowing "A" boards anywhere on the basis that business have learnt their lesson and will behave.
"This is just sheer hypocritical rubbish" said Cllr Longley. "The Ttories either want them banned or they don't. So much for their principles!" LibDem proposals for "finger post" directional signs to the side roads have been brushed aside in favour of going back to square one.
Now the disabled in particular the blind and partially sight have to fight their way through the maze of "A" boards that will no doubt reappear. It is unacceptable that they did not stick to their guns.
