Blenheim Ward Councillors on Southend Council expressed their dismay on hearing that the Progress Road junction had been approved and would be going ahead but that no change was to be made to the Kent Elms Corner junction where the traffic light sequence does not allow a stop time which would allow residents to get across to essential services. Cllrs Clinkscales, Longley & Smith pointed out all other traffic light controlled junctions do!
Although supporting the Progress Road changes Cllr Graham Longley said "the Council with government support can afford 'millions' to make those changes but cannot find 'pence' to change the lights sequence to allow Blenheim residents to get across the road to see their Doctors, visit the Clinic and use the Chemist."
The bridge over the A127 is used sparingly by mothers with prams, pensioners and school children who find it difficult to cross. All these people put their lives in danger daily in order to get their prescriptions, go to school or get medical treatment.
"It's time the Council helped Blenheim residents get real access to the services they need.
