Southend Council is under pressure to re-pay £1.7 mil to Europe because they did not - according to their own auditors - follow the correct procedure when handing out contracts for the re-vamping of Pier Hill in 2003.
Cllr Graham Longley, leader of the Liberal Democrats on Southend Council said that he clearly remembers he and his colleagues raising doubts about the allocation of the contract back when it was done five years ago.
Once again the Tory Council did not listen to others and are now having to consider the repayment of the grant. "It is outrageous that the Tories have now left the town in a position where once again the council taxpayers will no doubt foot the bill.
